KLA's
This website is designed to be a unit of work for the term. It is designed to address the following stage 3 outcomes:
Science:
ST3-9ES explains rapid change at the Earth’s surface caused by natural events, using evidence provided by advances in technology and scientific understanding
ST3-4WS investigates by posing questions, including testable questions, making predictions and gathering data to draw evidence-based conclusions and develop explanations
ST3-5WT investigates by posing questions, including testable questions, making predictions and gathering data to draw evidence-based conclusions and develop explanations
English:
EN3 - 1A communicates effectively for a variety of audiences and purposes using increasingly challenging topics, ideas, issues and language forms and features
EN3-2A composes, edits and presents well-structured and coherent texts
EN3-3A uses an integrated range of skills, strategies and knowledge to read, view and comprehend a wide range of texts in different media and technologies
Maths:
MA3-13MG Uses 24-hour time and am and pm notaton in real life situations and constructs timelines
Platforms
This website was designed with the assumption that students would have access to both PC's and Ipads as this is fast becoming standard in stage 3 classrooms across NSW.
Use of timer.
The timer (time until asteroid impact button) would be used in assisting students with time management and also as a motivational tool. At the end of term, as the timer comes to a close, the teacher would communicate to the students whether or not they have completed enough research as a group and one of the following videos would be shown. If enough work has been done, then the asteroid misses Earth and all students would be issued a certificate (see next page) and a small class party. If not, then the asteroid hits and no certificates or class party.
Motivation
Throughout the term students will be selected to share a completed task with the class. This is designed to motivate students so they produce work they are proud of, and to show other students different approaches to tasks, the aim being to inspire them to explore different ways of approaching their own tasks.
